Systems Signs Western Scientific
San Diego-based RAID manufacturer is now an
authorized reseller of the Mirage Virtual Tape
LAGUNA
HILLS, Calif., January 21, 2003 — Ultera Systems, the
leading provider of scalable Virtual Tape Controllers (VTC)
for enterprise backup, restore and archive has announced today
that they have signed a reseller agreement with Western
Scientific of San Diego, CA. The agreement authorizes
Western Scientific to resell Ultera’s Mirage Virtual Tape
controller.

with Western Scientific, when you consider their 20+ year
history in the data storage business. Their selection of our
new Mirage Virtual Tape product over the competition is a real

The recently introduced Mirage controller operates as a hard
drive based virtual tape library providing high performance
backup and restore with instantaneous file access and a unique
embedded archive capability with seamless scalability.
Mirage brings immediate performance improvements to backup,
restore and archival applications, as its measured
backup/restore rate is 280GB/Hr. for the SCSI version and
540GB/Hr. for the fibre channel version.

backup capability without reconfiguring their systems or

Mirage also features an auto-archive operation that
automatically moves data stored in the virtual library to a
physical library. All library robotics are managed by the
controller including exporting of tapes from the library for
off-site storage. Mirage fully supports ALL industry tape
drives and tape libraries, disk RAID and is totally
application software transparent.
