ULTERA SYSTEMS SIGNS CAMBRIDGE COMPUTER SERVICES AS
NORTHEAST DISTRIBUTOR
OF TAPE ARRAY TECHNOLOGY
LAGUNA HILLS, Calif., August 16, 1999.....Ultera
Systems, the leading tape array controller and tape array system supplier, today announced
that it has further expanded its network of resellers in a deal with Cambridge Computer
Services Inc., a specialized Boston-based VAR providing customized mass storage and backup
solutions to customers throughout the Northeast.
Cambridge Computer Services (http://www.cambridgecomputer.com) is one of the
nations leading specialists in backup products and services, offering customers
turnkey storage solutions including needs analysis, design, installation, optimization and
training. The company offers a comprehensive line of backup products, featuring automated
tape libraries from ADIC (NASDAQ: ADIC), ATL Products (NYSE: DSS), Qualstar and StorageTek
(NYSE: STK), along with Legato Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: LGTO), VERITAS Software (NASDAQ:
VRTS) and Computer Associates (NYSE: CA) backup software.
According to Nathan Hugenberger, Director of Storage Technologies at Cambridge
Computer, "Ultera is a natural fit, as the Ultera tape array controllers operate
seamlessly with backup hardware and software platforms, providing our current customers
with an easy upgrade path to the unmatched performance, reliability and data security
enabled by tape RAID technology without having to scrap their investment in backup
hardware and software.
"As our clients deploy SANs, they will be installing more centralized and larger
backup systems that will be aching for the performance benefits of Ultera's
products," said Hugenberger. "Equally important is Ultera's ability to create
mirrored copies of media in a logical, effort-free manner. Hardware-based tape mirroring
will allow our customers to keep a full set of tapes onsite for quick recovery and a full
set of tapes offsite for safekeeping."
"Cambridge Computer Services has the ideal profile for an Ultera reseller,
with a proven record of technical excellence for both hardware and software storage
solutions through consultative selling, and most recently having been recognized as
Legato's leading training facility, they are well-equipped to convey the benefits of tape
array technology," said Fred Bedard, Vice President, Sales and Marketing at Ultera
Systems. "Their reputation for skillfully integrating backup from the workgroup to
the enterprise ensures Ultera a powerful sales presence in the Northeast."
Ultera Systems provides unprecedented tape performance with its innovative line of tape
array controllers. Ultera controllers can be configured for RAID-1 operation, mirroring
data to a pair of drives, or RAID-3, with data and parity information striped across a set
of two or four drives. This configuration offers fault-tolerance, allowing tape backup
operations to continue even in the event of a drive or media failure, as well as the
fastest available performance by utilizing the cumulative bandwidth of all attached tape
drives. An optional parity drive can be added to maximize reliability of the tape array.
The Ultera product line includes the following models:
Striper Series: high-end tape array controller that stripes data across up
to five independent parallel array channels allowing for fast up to 40 MB/sec.
flexible and highly reliable data protection.
LibraryMaster Series: extends the tape array paradigm to the library
level, creating an array of multi-drive libraries utilizing Ulteras third-generation
Tape RAID technology to provide the highest tape performance, backup/restore automation
and fault-tolerant data protection while complementing existing tape technologies.
Imager Series: allows simultaneous creation of two or more identical
backup tapes in real time with no additional system overhead or software changes
necessary.
Shadow Master Series: provides real-time data mirroring across multiple
tape loaders and libraries for the ultimate in data reliability and disaster recovery.
